A wonderful visit to Berkeley and all it has to offer. The '60's ooze off the sidewalks, the sights, smells and textures saturate your senses. The UC Berkeley campus is beautiful--the political past whispers to you as you move across the campus. During the McCarthy era in 1949, the Board of Regents adopted an anti-communist loyalty oath to be signed by all University of California employees. This led to the '60's and the free speech movement which permeated the UC campus. Student protests continued through the Vietnam War era and spread across the nation. Today, the city of Berkeley is full of quaint coffee shops, international restaurants and a colorful community.
